Picasso did not merely create a body of work: he also constructed an image of himself. However, this image grew and evolved through the gaze of others. For decades, the press, photography, advertising, cinema, music, and popular culture have contributed to turning the artist into a persona, an icon, and, at times, a myth. La Imagen de Picasso is situated precisely in that space between the artist and his representation. Through 99 pieces, the exhibition gathers fragments of these perspectives to show how a single figure can be admired, appropriated, questioned, or reinterpreted depending on the context from which it is observed.
