Guernica Despedazado presents artist Julio Anaya Cabanding’s interpretation of Pablo Picasso’s iconic masterpiece. Using reclaimed materials and cardboard supports, the artist alters the scale and materiality of the original painting, shifting the piece from its monumental nature to a much more fragile and tangible language.
The exhibition is visually structured around the tension between fragment and totality. Through this radical change of medium, the project invites visitors to rethink an icon deeply rooted in collective memory, exploring how the representation of conflict endures and transforms within contemporary visual culture. To structure the spatial flow and contextualize the exhibition's narrative, the design incorporates broad chromatic bands that run along the perimeter of the gallery walls. Against this unifying backdrop unfolds a detailed chronological timeline, formalized through a geometric grid of square text panels. This graphic solution not only brings a strong visual rhythm to the space, but also allows the viewer to absorb the historical and conceptual evolution of the artwork in an organized, clean, and accessible manner.
